Staying on track to sectionals

<p>Josh Mulloy battled a hip injury this season but got healthy when it counted and won the boys’ 3,200-meter run in a WIAA Division 2 regional track and field meet at Wisconsin Lutheran College on Monday.</p>
<p>Mulloy, a senior, turned in a season-best time of 10 minutes, 7.81 seconds and was the only first-place finisher for a Cedar Grove-Belgium team that moved up to Division 2 this season.</p>
<p>Other Cedar Grove-Belgium boys making the top four to advance to Thursday’s Whitewater Sectional included Joel Merritt, second in the 1,600 run (4:38.11); Jesse Anderson, tied for third in the high jump (5 feet, 8 inches); Kyle Kirst, third in the long jump (20-1-1/2); and Zach Lyons, fourth in the triple jump (40-3-3/4).</p>
<p>Also advancing for the Rockets with fourth-place finishes were the 800 relay team of Tyler Garcia, Spencer Jacque, Matt Bornheimer and <br />Andrew Leick (1:37.8) and the 1,600 relay team of Garcia, T.J. DuMez, Jacque and Zac Garza (3:35.61).</p>
<p>Cedar Grove-Belgium finished sixth in the boys’ team standings with 56.5 points. Kettle Moraine Lutheran was first with 120 points. </p>
<p>Marina Paul led the Cedar Grove-Belgium girls with two second-place finishes — in the 3,200 run (12:44.92) and the 1,600 run (5:49.88).</p>
<p>Also advancing to the sectional for the Rockets with second-place efforts were Kiera Depies in the 800 run (2:26.89) and the 3,200 relay of Jessica Meinen, Erika Meinen, Depies and Paul (10:18.67).</p>
<p>The Rocket girls placed seventh in the team standings with 42 points. Milwaukee Lutheran was first with 181 points.<br />Warriors advance to sectional</p>
<p>The Ozaukee girls won two events in a Division 3 regional meet at Sheboygan Falls and qualified several athletes for Thursday’s sectional meet at Princeton.</p>
<p>Placing first were Hillary Johnson in the long jump (15-7) and Caitlin Siesco in the 800 run (2:30.07).</p>
<p>The Ozaukee girls’ other sectional qualifiers were the 1,600 relay of Sarah Brown, Nicola Zanker, Siesco and Johnson, second (4:31.37); 800 relay of Zanker, Siesco, Brown and Johnson, third (1:57.01); Johnson in the 200 dash, third (29.61); Zanker in the 400 dash, third (1:06.91); <br />Brown in the 400, fourth (1:08.04); and Emily Utecht in the high jump, fourth (4-6).</p>
<p>The Warriors finished fifth in the girls’ team standings with 79 points. St. Mary‘s Springs was first with 199 points.</p>
<p>In the boys’ portion of the meet, Ozaukee’s Brandon Turenne took third in the long jump (19-5-1/2), as did the 400 relay of Hunter Hess, Noah Stahl, Dustin Richter and Jason Gensrick (47.98).</p>
<p>The Warriors’ other sectional qualifiers were Alex Kreif in the discus, fourth (118-11); Richter in the 1,600 run, fourth (4:46.3); 800 relay of Gensrick, Doug Grimm, Stahl and Turenne, fourth (1:40.1); 1,600 relay of Gensrick, Stahl, Richter and Turenne, fourth (3:47.03); and Stahl in the high jump, fourth (5-10).</p>
