Spring colors turn to red, white and blue in Port

Sam Strohl

The green and yellow hues of spring were punctuated with red, white and blue as Port Washington commemorated Memorial Day with a downtown parade and program in Veterans Park. From top down: Boy Scout Sam Strohl and fellow members of Troop 855 prepared to march up Franklin Street with a large American flag. Wearing a smaller version of the flag painted on the park bandshell on his hat, Ammon Schmutzler listened to Jim Johnson, Ozaukee County American Legion Commander and county sheriff, speak during the program.
Paislee and Berkley, both 2, waved flags while sitting in the laps of their parents Larry Landwehr and Danielle Crary during the parade.
A wreath honoring those who have died in war was placed in Veterans Park and a color guard presented the flag during the program.
