Soil Health Poker Run to highlight good farming practices in county

A Soil Health Poker Run will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, July 16, to highlight what local farmers are doing to improve soil health.

The self-guided tour will start at Steve Weber’s farm at Lake Drive and Highland Drive in the Town of Port Washington, continue to Dixie Road and Dixie Court, then to Highway 57 a half mile north of Hawthorne Drive to visit two separate plots.

Participants grab playing cards at each stop with the top three hands winning prizes.

Participants will see no-till vs. air-seeded alfalfa, clover cover crop, corn following frost-seeded clover into winter wheat and no-till soybeans planted green.

The event is sponsored by the Milwaukee River Watershed Clean Farm Families, Ozaukee County Demonstration Farm Network and Ozaukee County.
