Softball teams end seasons

Grafton High School’s softball team pulled off a playoff victory last week.

The No. 5-seeded Black Hawks on May 26 won, 8-4, at No. 4 New Berlin West in the Division 2 tournament.

Senior Khiah King allowed 12 hits, four runs (two earned) and four walks while striking out five in going the distance.

Addi Haessly had two hits, including a double and three RBIs. Avery Schoggins had three hits, including a double. Mia Chojnacki had a hit and an RBI. Ava Eernisse had a double. King had a double, and Sydney Piaro and Grace Zvara each had a hit.

Last Thursday at Pewaukee, Grafton lost, 10-5.

Haessly had two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs. King had a double and an RBI. Eernisse had two hits, including a triple, and an RBI. Chojnacki had two hits and an RBI.

King allowed 14 hits, 10 runs (seven earned) and a walk while whiffing two.

The Hawks finished 4-8 in the North Shore Conference and 10-12 overall under first-year coach Jasmine Freeze.

No. 7 Port Washington lost, 9-0, at No. 2 Catholic Memorial on May 26. The Pirates struck out 17 times.

“We knew their pitcher was tough and we had a plan in place,” first-year coach Kaylow Huff said. “We practiced and prepared, but we failed to execute on game day.”

Port closed the regular season with a 22-0, three-inning perfect game at Sheboygan South on May 14  and a 20-0 win in five innings at Whitefish Bay on May 19.

Libby Bates struck out two in two innings in the perfect game. Natalie Olson whiffed one in one inning. Cadence Krueger had three hits, including a double, and six RBIs. Senior Svanna Miller had two doubles and an RBI. Chloe Cash had two hits, including a triple, and four RBIs. Taylyn Steinert had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs. Teaghan Mueller-Stenz had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs.

Against the Blue Dukes, Kayden Stasik had two hits, including a homer, and four RBIs. Bates had three hits, including two doubles, and two RBIs. Miller had a hit and three RBIs. Mueller-Stenz had a triple and two RBIs. Cash had two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Shelby Cash had two hits, including a double, and an RBI.

Stasik whiffed four in three perfect innings. Olson whiffed one and allowed a hit in two innings.

Port finished 3-9 in the Glacier Trails Conference and 8-14 overall.
