The win-loss record of the Cedar Grove-Belgium High School softball team isn’t indicative of its development this season.
The Rockets are 1-6 but have a young team and are learning.

Their season highlight has been a 3-0 home win over Sheboygan Lutheran on April 28.

“That actually was just a great softball game,” coach Scott Soerens said. “That’s the way it’s meant to be. 3-0 is exciting.”

Katelyn Morris starred at pitching, allowing one hit while whiffing seven, Soerens said.

Morris and Josie Horn each had big games at the plate.

“We actually played a pretty solid game all the way around,” Soerens said.

Last Thursday, the Rockets lost at St. Mary Catholic, 12-1.

“It’s very, very young, but I’m really happy with the progress from last year to this year,” Soerens said of his team.

“Most of the team is sophomores. They’re coming along. They keep learning every day.”

Despite some blowout losses, the team keeps its head.

“They shake it right off and go back to learning. It makes it a lot of fun for the coaching staff,” Soerens said.

The Rockets were to play Manitowoc Lutheran on Tuesday, at Reedsville on Thursday and to host Oostburg in a rain makeup game on Monday, May 16.
