It wasn’t a banner week against the best of the North Shore Conference for the Grafton High School softball team, but the Black Hawks managed to close on a positive note.

After three straight lopsided league losses, the Hawks beat Oostburg in a Sheboygan South tournament last Friday. The rest of the tourney was canceled due to rain.

It was the second time the Hawks beat Oostburg. They won, 10-0, the first time and, 9-0, the second.

“We did a nice job,” coach Mike Bergmann said, adding he hoped to play other teams to get a variety of competition.

Senior Madi Johnson-Hass allowed three hits and a walk while striking out five in seven innings.

“Madi has done a good job pitching for us,” Bergmann said.

Reese Konzcal had three hits — a home run and two doubles — and three RBIs. Megan Crass had three hits, and Jordyn Richter had two. Johnson-Hass had one hit and two RBis, and Alicia Melotik and Mary Weishan each had one hit and one RBI.

On April 25, the Hawks lost at West Bend West, 13-0, in five innings. The Spartans scored 10 runs in the first inning.

Johnson-Hass and Kaitlin Mangan each had a hit for Grafton.

Konczal had two hits and three RBIs. Melotik had two hits, and Mangan and Holzer each had one. Grafton made four errors.

The Hawks last Thursday lost at Hartford, 14-4, and lost Mangan for likely the rest of the season to a wrist injury. After getting on base with a hit, she later was accidentally stepped on while trying to score on a sacrifice fly.

“She has been a great player for me the last four years. She’s a great kid, a three-sport athlete, and really been a spark for us at the top of the lineup,” Bergmann said.

The Hawks fell behind, 7-0, after two innings.

Johnson-Hass had two hits, including a double, and one RBI. Melotik had two hits, and Riley Bergmann, Konczal and Mangan each had one.
