Size hurts Port, Grafton in track and field
The only two Division 2 track and field teams found it hard to keep pace with Division 1 competition in the North Shore Conference Meets on May 25 and 26.
The Grafton boys scored 31 points and took eighth place. Port Washington scored 19.5 and came in last.
Homestead won with 140 points, followed by Cedarburg, 126; Slinger, 100; Hartford, 85.5; West Bend West, 79; West Bend East, 61; and Whitefish Bay, 36. Nicolet was ninth with 24 points.
The Black Hawk’s best finish came from two relays.
The 400 relay of Silvio Lanza, Zack Schmidt, Dominic Voiland and Keymonta Cook was second in 45.47 seconds.
The 800 relay of Cook, Schmidt, Voiland and Erik Navarrete was second in 1 minute, 34.3 seconds.
Cook was fourth in the 100 in 11.34 and Chris Kalies was fourth in the 400 in 52.28.
The 1,600 relay of Navarrete, Andrew Rose, Voiland and Kalies was sixth in 3:38.3.
Cael Abad was seventh in the 3,200 in 10:26.34.
For Port, the 3,200 relay of Angelo Feciskonin, Nate Meeks, Gabe Pasten and Judah Meeks was third in 8:34.54.
Mason Deheck was fourth in pole vault by clearing 11 feet.
The 800 relay of Elijah Perez, Frank Grebas, Matt Esselmann and Ja’Quel Miller was seventh in 1:40.99.
Mason Raasch was eight in the 1,600 in 4:30.03, and Meeks was eighth in the 3,200 in 10:27.57.
Mirek, Lentz win events for girls
Grafton’s girls scored 27 points for eighth and Port was last with 15 points.
Homestead won with 153.5 points, followed by Whitefish Bay, 125.5; Slinger, 91; West Bend West, 81; Cedarburg, 69; and Hartford and Nicolet, 60. West Bend East was ninth with 20 points.
Hawk junior Camille Mirek won high jump with 5-2.
The 1,600 relay of Natalie Manuel, Grace Viesselmann, Ava Wilmanns and Maddy Wille was fourth in 4:22.29.
The 400 relay of Sophia Scolman, Wilmanns, Ava Matthai and Grumley ws fifth in 52.13, and the 800 relay of Manuel, Wilmanns, Viesselmann and Grumley was fifth in 1:52.03.
Wille was seventh in the 800 in 2:33.93, and Grumley was seventh in the 200 in 27.67.
For Port, which hasn’t fielded a full team all season, freshman Ava Lentz won discus with a personal-record 99-7.
The 3,200 relay of Braeya Thomas, Audyn Setzer, Abbey Lotz and Toni Walters was fifth in 10:47.39.
Tiana Davis was eighth in triple jump in 31-3.25.
Port and Grafton were to compete Tuesday in an invite at Hart Park in West Allis and in a Grafton invite on Thursday.
They close their regular seasons at a Slinger invite on Wednesday, June 9.
