Singer, songwriter Kilgour to take stage in Mequon

Singer and songwriter Rachael Kilgour will perform a concert at Unitarian Church North in Mequon at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 9.
The doors will open at 7 p.m.
Kilgour is a Minnesotan whose lyric-driven work and intimate performances have been called both brave and humane.
Kilgour, the 2015 grand prize winner of the NewSong Music Performance and Songwriting Competition and winner of the 2017 Kerrville New Folk Contest, has been featured at New York City’s Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and at the Sundance Film Festival.
In her early 20s, Kilgour’s works chronicled her life as a young parent in a same-sex partnership and addressed sociopolitical issues from government corruption to income inequality and religious hypocrisy.
In 2014, Kilgour found solace in songwriting after a difficult divorce and family separation. She began touring nationally with her grief-inspired album, “Rabbit in the Road.”
Five years later, Kilgour released “Game Changer,” which examines her first steps into a new existence, post-heartbreak and touches on the complicated nature of romance and relationship.
Kilgour was awarded a 2020 Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grant to focus on a songwriting project about the life and recent death of her father.
Her concert is part of the Wisconsin Singer/Songwriter Series.
Tickets are $19 in advance or $23 at the door and $12 for students.
A discount of $1 per food item donated to a maximum $4 will be given at the door.
Tickets may be purchased at North Shore Bank in Grafton and Vines to Cellar in Port Washington.
The church is at 13800 N. Port Washington Rd.
Future Wisconsin Singer/Songwriter Series concerts include  Susan Werner on Saturday, April 23; Tret Fure on Saturday, May 7; and John Gorka on Friday, May 20.
