Singer, songwriter concert is Nov. 23

Anne Heaton and Frank Marotta Jr. will present a Wisconsin Singer/Songwriter Series concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at Unitarian Church North in Mequon.

Heaton’s songs have been described as “tender, barbed and spiritual” by the Washington Post, and she has played on NPR, at the Sundance Film Festival and at Lilith Fair in Boston.

She’s played more than 1,000 headlining shows throughout the country, shared the stage with such artists as Sarah McLachlan and jazz drummer Max Roach and opened for or toured with Jewel, Melissa Ferrick, Paula Cole, Martin Sexton, Chris Trapper, Jonatha Brooke, Susan Werner, Dar Williams, Richard Shindell, Jill Sobule and Julia Sweeney.

Heaton studied Great Books at the University of Notre Dame, writing her senior thesis on Debussy’s piano works, and studied composition and jazz vocals at the City College of New York.

In addition to writing and producing her own albums, Heaton produces records for other songwriters. She also regularly writes custom songs including ones she recently wrote as part of a research project and caregiving program for oncology nurses at the University of Texas-Austin called Songs for the Soul.
