Shirley Poull Greiveldinger

Shirley Greiveldinger of Port Washington passed away at her home on Monday, April 21, 2025. She was 93 years old.

She was born Dec. 12, 1931, on the third floor of the Mayer Hotel (later the Port Hotel) to Emil Peter “Pete” Poull and Frances Mayer Poull, the then-owners of the hotel.

On June 23, 1962, Shirley married Joseph Greiveldinger at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Port Washington. They lived in Port their entire married lives.

Mrs. Greiveldinger earned her undergraduate degree in teaching from Mount Mary College, Milwaukee. 

She taught for one year in the Los Angeles School District in California and was later a teacher at Henry Clay Middle School in Whitefish Bay before becoming a substitute teacher in the Port Washington-Saukville School District. 

She was a faithful member of St. Peter’s Church in Port and prayed the rosary daily. 

Survivors include her children Robert Greiveldinger of Port Washington and Anne (Andrew) Vauk of Round Lake, Ill., grandchildren Conner, Jocelyn and Alexis Vauk, other family members and friends. 

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Joseph in 2010, their son Joseph G. Greiveldinger in 2023 and her sisters LuCele (the late Marv) Sabel and Phyllis (the late Ralph) Swatek.

  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon Saturday,  May 3, at St. John XXIII Catholic Parish, St. Peter of Alcantara Church, 1800 N. Wisconsin St., Port Washington, with Father Patrick Wendt presiding. There will be a rosary service at 10 a.m., followed by visitation from 10:30 a.m. to noon. 

Shirley will be interred Saturday at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Port Washington.

  Memorials are suggested to St. John XXIII Catholic School or Parish.
