Section of Hawthorne Road in town reopens after replacement of culvert

Hawthorne Road east of Highway 57 in the Town of Saukville reopened Tuesday after being washed out by recent heavy rains.

An 80-foot-long culvert running diagonally under the road was replaced and a 12-foot-wide trench had to be dug to accommodate it, Saukville Town Supervisor Curt Rutkowski said.

Final paving still remains to be done.

“The contractor will finish paving it in the next few days as his schedule allows,” Rutkowski said.

Rutkowski said the cost to the town had not yet been calculated but that insurance will not cover a weather event like what occurred.

“There might be funds available through disaster aid,” he said.
