Authorities continue to search this week for the driver of a vehicle they say caused a serious accident by pulling out in front of a motorcycle that was southbound on Highway W in the Town of Grafton on Friday, May 13, forcing the 79-year-old driver to lay his bike down.

The driver of the vehicle described only as being possibly gray or green did not stop at the scene and, Capt. Marshall Hermann of the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office said, may not have been aware of the crash.

The motorcycle driver, Thomas Czarnecki of Grafton, suffered a severe head injury and a possible leg injury and was taken to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa. Czarnecki was not wearing a helmet, authorities said.

“Mr. Czarnecki suffered severe injures, but he is in stable condition and recovering,”  Hermann said Tuesday.

Czarnecki was driving south on Highway W when, at 4:45 p.m., a vehicle that was driving west on Lakefield Road failed to yield the right of way and turned south onto Highway W in front of the motorcycle, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Czarnecki took his motorcycle to the ground to avoid a crash. The two vehicles did not make contact.

Hermann said the Sheriff’s Office is collecting surveillance video from the area in an attempt to identify the vehicle.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at (262) 284-7172 or send an anonymous tip by texting the keyword OZSO to 847411, adding a space, typing the tip and sending.
