Ozaukee High School’s Nick Schubert ran a season-best time and earned a medal in the Crusader Challenge cross country meet at Sheboygan Lutheran on Sept. 17.

Schubert finished the 5,000-kilometer course in 18 minutes, 3.72 seconds.

That helped the Warriors to 289 points and 10th place of 18 teams.

Campbellsport scored 41 points, edging Kohler’s 42. Kettle Moraine Lutheran had 124 points and Sheboygan Lutheran had 131.

Ozaukee’s Brice Schueller was 27th in 19:12.69. Peyton Mueller was 81st in 21:08.98, a season best by 91 seconds. Otto Utecht was 89th in 21:23.04 and Evan Caswell was 93rd in 22:01.08. All their times were season bests, and Caswell’s was a personal record.

Dylan Budizsz was 106th in 23:06.51.

“I thought the boys competed well against a stacked field of teams and many of them saw new season-best times or personal records,” coach Andrew Pfeuffer said.

“They did not shy away from the competition and ran tough on an honest course at Sheboygan Lutheran. Peyton Mueller did a great job moving up this race. The boys are continuing to show progress each week and are working hard.”

Girls bunch up to take ninth

The Warrior girls’ top three runners lumped together, leading to a ninth-place finish.

Ozaukee scored 192 points in the 14-team meet. Kohler won with 59, followed by Sheboygan Lutheran’s 79. Oostburg and Kettle Moraine Lutheran each had 128 points.

Addison Schubert was 33rd in 23:46. Eva VanMinsel was 36th in a personal-record 23:49.48. Madison Glaeser was 37th in a season-best 23:50.05.

“With a large invite, respectable course, and tough competition, our girls competed well. They did a great job of working together and not settling throughout the race,” Pfeuffer said.

Emily Luza was 50th in 24:44.

“Emily Luza had a big race, running two minutes faster than her previous season best. With Emily taking a big step up, it really helped our team in the standings,” Pfeuffer said.

Freshmen Lila Steinert was 92nd in 28:50 and Katelyn Gomez was 98th in 28:21. Both are personal records by nearly a minute.

Ozaukee was to run in the Winnconne Invite on Tuesday, Sept. 24, and in Manitowoc on Saturday, Sept. 28.
