Saints strand too many in loss to the A’s
On Sunday, the Kewaskum A’s visited the Saukville Saints and won 6-3 in a seven-inning, rain-shortened game.
Kewaskum scored two runs in the first inning on a walk and two doubles off Saints starter Mike Sherrick.
The Saints loaded the bases in their half of the first on a walk to Steve Dickmann singles by Sherrick and Dustin Kesner, but they failed to score.
The A’s scored three more runs in the second inning on four singles, a stolen base and fielder’s choice.
The Saints loaded the bases in the fifth inning on an infield error and walks to Sherrick and Kesner, but a double play ended that threat.
The A’s scored one more in the sixth on a triple and an infield out.
The Saints broke through in the seventh inning as they loaded the bases on Gabe Nelson’s single and after Dickmann and Sherrick got hit by pitches.
Singles by Dustin Kesner and Mike Pruefer each scored one run. An infield out by Mike Mueller scored one more.
But that was all the Saints got as the game was called when rain made conditions too dangerous to continue.
Jared Chesak led the A’s with two hits. Kesner, Pruefer, and Aaron Brockman had two hits each for the Saints, which had a total of eight hits.
Sherrick went the distance for the Saints, allowing six earned runs and 10 hits in seven innings.
The A’s used three pitchers — Brad Weber and Brian and Andrew Javoroski.
The Saints play at Oakfield at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. On Sunday, they host Helenville at 1:30 p.m. at Fred Dickmann Field in Saukville.
