Saints lose three in two days

Team manages one hit in second game at Oakfield

The Saukville Saints couldn’t quite salvage a victory on Sunday after dropping a doubleheader the day before.

The Saints fell behind early and lost at the Kewaskum A’s, 6-3.

Cale Fransen started and allowed six runs (three earned) in six innings. He gave up seven hits, walked three and whiffed four.

Mike Sherrick then allowed two hits in two scoreless innings.

The A’s scored one run in the first inning, three in the second and two in the fourth.

The Saints scored two runs in the fourth inning. A single by Jimmy D’Angelo, walk to Mike Pruefer and a single by Aaron Brockman loaded the bases. Former Ozaukee High School star Simon Bares plated one run with a single, and Jordan D’Angelo sent another home with a single.

The Saints got one run in the ninth inning. Bares led off with a walk, moved to second on a passed ball and came home on two infield grounders.

Brockman and Jordan D’Angelo each had two hits.

For the A’s, Brad Young went the distance, allowing three earned runs and seven hits while whiffing 12 and walking four.

Ethan Sawyer had three hits, including a triple.

On Saturday, the Saints lost at the Oakfield Oaks, 13-4 and 2-0, in a doubleheader with games each lasting seven innings.

In the opener, the Oaks scored one run in the first inning on an Adam Ryan solo home run, three each in the third and fourth innings, one each in the fifth and sixth innings and four in the seventh.

The Saints, the home team in the first game, tied it at 1 in the second inning. Taylor Devenport walked and Max Pruefer singled to put runners on first and third. A grounder by Brockman plated a run.

Down, 9-2, in the sixth inning, the Saints tried to rally with a leadoff double by Brock Henke. Walks to Devenport and Max Pruefer loaded the bases. Jimmy D’Angelo was hit by a pitch to plate one run and a Bares’ sacrifice fly scored another, but that was all the Saints could muster.

Tom Hartwick started and went 6-1/3 innings for the Saints, allowing 13 runs (eight earned) and 13 hits, whiffing and walking two each.

Bares pitched a perfect 2/3 of an inning.

Steve Dickmann had two hits for the Saints.

For the Oaks, Ryan had two home runs and Hunter Berry had one. Cormac Madican had three hits and a home run.

In the second game, Brockman allowed two earned runs on five hits in six innings, walking one and striking out three.

Oak starter Casey Pickering didn’t allow a hit and struck out 10 in five innings. Austin Syventson allowed one hit while walking one and whiffing three in two innings.

The Oaks scored their two runs in the third inning. A single, bunt, groundout, single and double scored the runs.

In the seventh, Saint Dave Gent singled and Jimmy D’Angelo walked, but the team couldn’t rally.

On Sunday, the Saints (2-10) host the Cedarburg Mercs (4-7) at 1:30 p.m. at Fred Dickmann Field.
