Robert I. Hopkins

Robert “Bob” I. Hopkins passed away with his three children by his side on Friday, Dec. 18, 2020.

Bob was born in Milwaukee, Wis., on Jan. 24, 1936, to Alfred and Dorothy (Barton) Hopkins.

Bob grew up in Maquoketa, Iowa, and that is where he met his wife Carole. After graduation, they married and shortly afterwards Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Lewis.

Bob was a simple man who enjoyed the simple things in life. He enjoyed nature, whether it was camping, hunting, feeding the birds or going for walks, especially along Lake Michigan.

Being up north, spending time with family and friends, is where many treasured memories were made. Bob also enjoyed movies starring John Wayne and astronomy. Bob was known as a history buff.

Bob and Carole made Port Washington their home in 1967, when they built the home Bob lived in up until his passing.

Bob is survived by his children Douglas Hopkins of Port Washington, Michael (Margaret) Hopkins of Grafton and Lori (Bob) Wagner of Saukville. He is further survived by his grandchildren Matt Hopkins, Meghan (Matt) Kreis, Michelle (Shawn) Scheftgen and Ryan (Sandy) Wagner; 10 great-grandchildren; brother Alfred Hopkins Jr.; brother-in-law Aimar (Jean) Schmidt; sister-in-law Sharon Schmidt; other relatives; and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife Carole, and siblings Richard (Dorothy) Hopkins, Jim Hopkins and Dorothy (Marion) Roberts.

A time of gathering will take place on Friday, Jan. 8, 2021, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave., Port Washington, WI 53074.

Inurnment for Bob and his wife Carole will take place in the spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Port Washington.

In lieu of flowers, memorials of the donor’s choice are suggested.
