Random Lake High School Principal Adam Englebretson is leaving the district to be the superintendent of the New Lisbon School District in Juneau County.

New Lisbon is near Mauston, where Englebretson grew up.

“This is a position he has earned,” Random Lake School District Supt. Mike Trimberger said. “He and his team have accomplished some great things and have done a fantastic job.”

Englebretson has been the principal at Random Lake High School for six years. Previously, he was a social studies teacher in the Plymouth School District, activities director and assistant principal in the Clinton School District and principal of curriculum and instruction at the Sheboygan School District.

He replaces Dennis Birr, who had been the New Lisbon Schools superintendent since 2011. Englebretson will begin his new duties on July 1.

Trimberger said the process to find a replacement for Englebretson is just beginning but said it likely will be someone already with the district.

“With the uncertainty of our budget situation and everything in flux” due to restrictions related to the coronavirus outbreak,   “we’re going to go to someone familiar with the organization — kind of the next man up,” he said.

Whether the new person will be an interim superintendent or permanent replacement will be discussed later, he said, saying there are several candidates within the district.

A portion of the towns of Fredonia and Belgium are within the Random Lake School District.
