Clear the sidewalks of snow or pay $200.

That’s the new rate in Belgium if the village has to do the job after the Village Board approved the change last week.

The village had kept a record of costs and charged the property owner accordingly, but the Personnel and Finance Committee last month recommended the charge be standardized.

Village ordinances call for snow and ice to be cleared from sidewalks within 24 hours after it stops snowing. Areas to be cleared must be at least four feet wide.
