Recognizing a champion of soil health and water quality

Honored for his environmentally conscious farming practices, Joel Kasten of the Town of Cedarburg (middle) was presented with the Clean Farm Families Jim Melichar Soil Health Award during a workshop hosted by the farm organization and the Ozaukee County Land and Water Management Department at the Port Wisconsin Inn and Suites in Port Washington last week. Posing with Kasten were Andy Holschbach (left), the former director of the county department and a member of Clean Farm Families, and Mike Paulus, president of the organization. The award is named for the late Town of Port Washington farmer and first president of Clean Farm Families and is presented annually to people who advance agriculture by improving soil health and water quality.
