Railroad crossing work in Fredonia to detour traffic throughout this week
Work began this week on improving the Wisconsin and Southern Railway crossing on Fredonia Avenue in the Village of Fredonia.
Westbound traffic on Highways A and H is being rerouted on Highway 57 north to Highway 144 in Random Lake, then west to Highway I and south to Highways A and H.
Eastbound traffic is being rerouted over the same roads but in reverse order. The reason for the long detour through Random Lake is that county highway detours are required to use county or state highways unless the local municipality approves using local roads.
“Neither the Town of Fredonia or Village of Fredonia approved their roads for the detour, which is why the detour goes all the way to Random Lake,” Ozaukee County Highway Commissioner Jon Edgren said.
Work on the crossing is expected to be completed next week, Edgren said.
