Public to vote on names for peregrines

We Energies is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its peregrine falcon program by inviting the public to help name the chicks born at its power plants this spring.

Since the program made its debut in 1992, the proposed names hearken to that year.

People may vote as often as they want through May 10 at

The names include:

Scrunchie, in honor of the popular fashion accessory of 1992.

  LOL in honor of the first text message ever sent.

  Crystal for the short-lived Crystal Pepsi, which made its debut in 1992.

  Favre to honor of Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre’s first year with the Packers.

  Golden to recognize “The Golden Girls,” which aired its last episode in 1992.

  Garth in honor of “Wayne’s World,” which premiered in 1992.

  Kris, after the release of “Jump” by Kris Kross.

  Dream in honor of the 1992 gold-medal Dream Team.

  Reality to honor of the first season of “The Real World,” which kicked off the reality television craze.

Mario for the debut of the video game Super Mario Kart.

  Barney, to commemorate the purple dinosaur, who made his debut in 1992.

Leap for the leap year celebrated in 1992.

  MOA to recognize the Mall of America, which opened in 1992.

  Mae to honor of Mae Jemison, who became  the first African American woman in space in 1992.

  Flannel for the grunge music and clothing style that became popular in 1992.

  Jump in honor of the debut of “Jump Around,” the Badgers rally song by House of Pain.

  Whitney to commemorate Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You,” the best-selling song of 1992.
