Program on bald eagle nest project set

AN ADULT AND a juvenile bald eagle were photographed in a nest recently. A program on the bald eagle nest watch project will be held in West Bend and on Zoom at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10.

A presentation on the bald eagle nest watch program at Lac Lawrann Conservancy in West Bend will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10.

People may attend the program live or via Zoom.

Beth Berger Martin will present information about the program, which was launched by the Department of Natural Resources and Badgerland Bird Alliance  — formerly the Madison Audubon Society — in 2018.

The goal of the program is to monitor and better understand how the bald eagle populations in Wisconsin are faring.

The bald eagle nest watch program is monitoring more than 100 nests in 36 counties.

People may volunteer to monitor nests or find and report nest locations. The time commitment is about one hour a week during the nesting season, which runs from late March through July,

Martin and her husband Ken have been actively looking for and monitoring bald eagle nests since 2016. In addition to her volunteer efforts with the bald eagle nest watch, she is a raptor specialist at the Schlitz Audubon Center in Brown Deer.

To attend either on Zoom or in person, register through the Lac Lawrann Conservancy website at https://laclawrann.org.
