Port tennis ties for sixth in NSC

Port Washington High School’s tennis team tied Hartford for sixth place in the North Shore Conference Tournament last week.
The highest any Pirate finished was fifth. Kaylee Doll at No. 1 singles and Chloe and Tess Schueller at No. 1 doubles each placed fifth.
Doll beat Hunter Bault of Grafton, 6-0, 6-0; then lost to Mia Hessel of Whitefish Bay, 6-0, 6-0.
In the consolation bracket, Doll beat Kate Nielson of West Bend West, 6-0, 6-3; and beat Olivia Helling of West Bend East, 6-4, 6-2, for fifth place.
The Schuellers beat Kayla Lemens and Rachel DeGeorge, 6-4, 3-6, 10-8; then lost to Kate Wade and Sasha Shapsis of Homestead, 6-0, 6-0.
In the consolation bracket, the Schuellers beat Paige Baizley and Olivia Carroll of Hartford, 4-6, 6-4, (10-8); and in the fifth-place match beat Kephely Igoni and Bella Rosmann, 7-5, 1-6 (10-2).
The Pirates’ No. 3 doubles team of Morgan Stone and Ashley Zygowski beat Grafton’s Hailey Bault and Katie Lindeman, 6-3, 6-2, before losing their next two matches against Whitefish Bay and Nicolet.
No Grafton tennis players placed in the top six.
This week, Grafton scored two points in the Division 2 Sheboygan Falls sub-sectional and finished last of nine teams. Kohler won with 24 points.
Port Washington didn’t score in the Division 1 sub-sectional at West Bend East and finished last of eight teams. Slinger won with 20 points.
