The Port Washington High School girls’ tennis team won two matches and lost one in the Mukwonago quadrangular meet last week.

The Pirates beat Greenfield, 5-2, and Whitnall, 4-3, and lost to the hosts, 6-1.

No. 2 singles player Zaara Rehman and all three of Port’s doubles teams went 2-1 on the day.

Rehman beat Ellie Krasovich of Greenfield, 1-6, 6-1, 13-11; and Allie Sweede of Mukwonago, 0-6, 7-5, 10-3.

“She used consistency at the baseline and movement to stay within all three matches. Her positive attitude and mental toughness helped her win in the third set against both Greenfield and Mukwonago,” coach Melonie Zielinski said.

The No. 1 doubles team of Chloe and Tess Schueller beat Abby Hansen and Callie Fuentes of Greenfield, 6-0, 6-0; and Ellie Wollf and Abby Cunningham of Whitnall, 6-1, 6-3.

“They did a great job finding the open court and pushing their opponents to play defensive tennis. Even with a loss against Mukwonago, they both played extremely well and used effective net strategies,” Zielinski said.

Jessica Boccio and Madelyn Hughes at No. 2 doubles beat Trista Reichert and Natalie Kielley of Greenfield, 6-0, 6-1; and Lily Stuart and Caitlyn Walisiewicz of Whitnall, 6-1, 6-0. They lost to Kailey Trudell and Sarah Waller of Mukwonago, 7-6(3), 6-3.

“They used pace and power to hit consistent baseline shots while also using the net to their advantage. Their best match of the day was against Mukwonago because they used communication and net play to play an extremely close match,” Zielinski said.

The No. 3 doubles team of Morgan Stone and Ashley Zygowski beat Kiara Orozco and Hoang-ly Ho of Greenfield, 6-1, 6-2; and Morgan Ebert and Zoe Pinter of Whitnall, 7-6(4), 7-5.

“They had a successful day by using strength and placement to win against Whitnall and Greenfield,” Zielinski said.

Port hosts Hartford at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, plays in a Sheboygan South triangular on Saturday and plays at West Bend East on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
