Port swimmers try different events

The Port Washington High School girls’ swim team tried their limbs at some new events at the West Bend Co-op on Oct. 8.

“Most of the girls tried a stroke or distance they haven’t done before. We emphasized effort over outcome and had them focus on doing their best. They did a great job trying something out of their comfort zone,” coach Danielle Peiffer said.

West Bend’s pool is 25 meters long so the times are about 10% slower, Peiffer said.

West Bend Co-op won, 142-43.

Freshmen Josie Tetzlaff and Abbey Lotz tied to score the most points for the Pirates with seven each.

Lotz was second in the 50-meter freestyle in 31.2 seconds.

The Pirates’ 200 freestyle relay team of Tetzlaff, Kamryn Lapacek, Audyn Setzer and Lotz was second in 2:07.3.

Freshman Stephanie Schlessinger was third in diving with 142.55 points.

Port hosted North Shore Conference opponent Hartford on Tuesday and swims at Homestead on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

The NSC swim and dive meet at Homestead is Nov. 1 and 2.
