Port students demonstrate their chess prowess at home tournament

For young chess players, Thomas Jefferson Middle School was the place to be on Saturday, Jan. 25, when the Port Washington school hosted its 17th annual chess tournament. The event drew 92 students in kindergarten through 12th grade from throughout the region. Among the TJMS students participating in the tournament were (clockwise from top photo) Judah Leinss (left), Everly Lester (right) and Augie Luedtke. As a team, the Port middle school placed first in the K-6U500 and U1000 divisions and third in the highly competitive open division.
