Port to mark holiday with parade, program
Memorial Day will be commemorated in Port Washington in traditional fashion, with a full slate of in-person events this year.
The day will begin with a parade at 10:30 a.m. The parade will begin at the corner of Wisconsin and Main streets, head south to Grand Avenue and make its way to Veterans Memorial Park.
A program will be held at the park featuring American Legion District 2 Commander Jim Johnson, who’s also the Ozaukee County sheriff, as the guest speaker, Van Ells-Schanen Post 82 Commander John Jacque said.
The Legion will recognize members who have died, taps will be played and a gun salute held.
The Thomas Jefferson Middle School and Port Washington High School bands will play, and the high school’s Limited Edition a capella group will also perform.
Following the ceremony, the Legion will provide hot dogs and ice cream at its clubhouse across Lake Street.
This is the first time in the last two years the Legion has held a full, in-person Memorial Day commemoration due to the pandemic.
