Port library sets May programs, activities

May events at the Niederkorn Library in Port Washington include book club meetings, health care advocacy, dream interpretation and a blood drive.

Career planning workshops will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays.

Emily Smith, a human resources consultant with Ansay & Associates, will provide one-on-one assistance with career planning needs such as resume reviewing, interview preparation and job searching and applying.

People may drop in or register for an appointment.

A grief support group meets in the community room from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday.

The group is open to anyone experiencing grief and is facilitated by Colson Leach, bereavement coordinator with Compassus Hospice.

A spring craft and social  night for adults will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 4. Those attending will create an embroidered tote bag during a guided session. Supplies will be provided and treats and refreshments will be available.

Herb Thyme grab n’ go kits  will be available beginning at 9 a.m. Friday, May 5.

The kit will include dried herbs, seeds to plant and recipes to use the herbs. Get one kit per person each month while supplies last.

The D&D PW Bookwyrms group meet from 5 to 8 p.m. on the second and fourth  Tuesday in the community room and upstairs quiet room.

Players of all experience levels are invited.

A Red Cross blood drive sponsored by the Port Washington Lions Club will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, in the community room.

The Board of Aging and Long Term Care and Ombudsman Services will discuss being an advocate for people in long term care. Those attending will learn about the different types of home care such as assisted living, nursing homes, hospice, and family care and how volunteering can make a difference.

The Friday Morning Book Talk group will meet at 9:30 a.m. Friday, May12, in the quiet room.

Although the group is sponsored by the Port Washington Adult Community Senior Center, adults of all ages are welcome to attend. Copies of the featured book are available for check out.

The Novel Ideas Book Club for fiction fans will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 15, in the quiet room.

Copies of the featured book will be available at the front desk. 

“Four Day Work Week” is the topic for Port Conversations at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 18, in the community room.

The presenters will be Harbor Campus Executive Director Carla Kostecki and Victoria Cabrerai, who is in employee relations.

Harbor Campus adopted a four-day work week for some employees in November, and the presenters will discuss why they made the switch and how it has impacted the workplace.

Dream interpretation will be discussed by Judy Noon at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 24.

The group will learn a gentle process for discovering the wisdom of our dreams through community supported self-discovery.

The BYOBook Club will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 25, at Inventor’s Brewpub.

Those attending are asked to share the books they are currently reading or just finished, no matter the genre.
