Port library to host D-Day, suffrage events
Library and Port Washington Senior Center will celebrate the “Power of Connection” by commemorating the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
The two will host Janet Newman of the Wisconsin Historical Society, author of “Letters from Clara: One Intrepid Woman’s Travels on the Eve of War, 1936-1939.”
The book is the story of Wisconsin voyageur and YWCA representative Clara Pagel as she traveled through Europe, the Far East and Middle East just prior to World War II. Newman will talk about the book at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Sept. 13 in the community room.
The library will also host a display, “We Stand on Their Shoulders,” throughout October to remember the Women’s Suffrage movement.
City Clerk Susan Westerbeke will host a Port Conversations discussion about voting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3.
The library is at 316 W. Grand Ave.
