The Port Washington High School golf team placed seventh in a WIAA Division 1 sectional meet on the Irish Course at Whistling Straits last week.
The Pirates finished at 367, led by Antonion Feciskonin’s 87. Max Kelly shot 90, Reilly Sullivan and Jordan Gardipee 95 each and Chad Spaeth 100.
“I was happy we qualified for sectionals and wish our scores were better, but my team played well, just did not get the results we wanted,” Port coach Scott Kosidowski said.
“I thought we had a great year, and the team was very excited to play the Irish Course. We are looking to next year and continue to improve from this year.”
Fond du Lac won the meet with 304.
Grafton’s Andrew Henning, who qualified for the sectional as an individual, shot 81, good for 15th place among 48 golfers.
“He had his best round ever in a high school meet,” Grafton coach Phil Trottier said. “He played beautifully. It was fun to watch.”
Henning shot 37-44. He had three birdies and hit 12 of 14 fairways.
It could have been even better, but a bad break on No. 15 had Henning scoring a triple bogey.
He was two over par at the time, and an approach shot just caught the front of the bunker.
Had it flown another foot or two, it would have kicked onto the green.
But it was still a stellar round.
“He saved his best round for last. It was a nice way for him to end his high school career,” Trottier said.
