Port Exploreum to open June 6 with new exhibits

The Port Exploreum is expected to reopen Saturday, June 6, with new exhibits and one new feature.
In addition to being open for visitors, the museum will be renting its second-floor deck for $25 an hour for people who may want to enjoy the view in a private setting, perhaps to hold a small lunch or happy hour. A maximum six people will be allowed on the deck. A table and chairs will be provided.
The maritime museum will be open from 11 am. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 4 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.
Between 1 and 2 p.m., the museum staff will clean and disinfect the building.
Visitors ages 5 and older will be required to wear masks and to social distance.
There will be sanitation stations on all floors of the museum, and when people enter they will be given styluses to use at the museum’s interactive displays. The styluses are to be returned when visitors leave, and they will then be sanitized.
Only 10 visitors will be allowed in the museum at a time.
The museum’s new exhibits are on the breweries of Port Washington and Paul Wiening’s collection of photos of coal boats, sponsored by Port Washington State Bank and We Energies, respectively.
Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for children ages 5 to 17 and free for children younger than 4.
The Exploreum is at 118 N. Franklin St.
The Historical Society, which operates the Exploreum, has also announced reopening dates for the Light Station and its Research Center.
The Light Station, 311 Johnson St., will open Saturday, June 27. It will be open from noon to 3 p.m. Saturdays through Oct. 11.
The last tour each Saturday will begin at 2:30 p.m.
The Research Center at 205 N. Franklin St., will reopen on Monday, June 29. It will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.
The Research Center will be closed on July 4.
