There shouldn’t be a question of when trick or treat in Port Washington is held from now on.

Aldermen on Tuesday agreed to hold trick or treat from 4 to 7 p.m. on the Saturday before Halloween from now on.

At their last meeting, aldermen informally decided to hold trick or treat on Oct. 26 but did not set the hours after City Administrator Mark Grams said the staff at City Hall had received numerous phone calls about the issue.

Ald. Deb Postl expressed concern about the traditional three-hour time period, saying children’s attention span wasn’t that long.

But Postl said Tuesday that after posting an online poll, she now firmly supports the three hour time frame.

Aldermen were set to approve the 4 to 7 p.m. hours for Oct. 26 when Ald. Dan Benning suggested setting a permanent time for trick or treat.

“If something falls odd, we can deal with it as an exception,” Benning said.

“It would certainly make things easier,” Grams said.
