Port’s Montreal edged in state singles opener
Port Washington’s Aaron Montreal lost a close first-round match at No. 1 singles in last week’s WIAA Division 1 state boys’ tennis tournament in Madison.
Montreal, a senior, fell to Ben Ruggles of McFarland, 6-2, 2-6, 10-6.
“Aaron was able to get inside his opponents head and put Ben on the defensive,” Port coach Melonie Zielinski said.
“Aaron used placement to drive his opponent deep to then come up and attack at the net.
“I am very proud of all Aaron accomplished this season. His success truly comes from hard work and determination.”
