The Town of Belgium’s Plan Commission’s scheduled meeting this week at which it was to discuss a controversial pay-to-hunt proposal has been delayed a week.

The commission was scheduled to meet Feb. 20 to discuss Dan Large’s request for a conditional use permit to allow a pay-to-hunt operation on a 65-acre parcel on the corner of Lake Church and Silver Beach roads.

That meeting has been moved to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, “due to conflicting schedules and to allow the town attorney more time to prepare needed information,” according to an email from Town Clerk Ginger Murphy.

The Town Board last month tabled action on the request, which was recommended to be denied by the commission in November on a 7-1 vote.

Town Chairman Tom Winker said he  talked to the town’s attorney and the Wisconsin Towns Association’s attorney and determined more time is needed to address the issue.

The Town Board approved tabling the topic to its March 4 meeting. The Plan Commission was to discuss the proposal before that.
