Pirates’ swimmers continue to post personal-bests

Winning 11 of 12 events helped the Port Washington High School girls’ swim and dive team to a 140-34 win at Grafton on Sept. 30.
The Pirates set 29 total individual personal records and two of its relays swam their best times.
Port won all three relays. The 200-yard medley relay of Sophia Schicker, Teagan Zuraw, Gwen Jerome and Bridget Bryan won in 2 minutes, 16.78 seconds.
The 200 freestyle relay of Edynn Strube, Harper Walber-Yoshioka, Anna Nisiewicz and Amanda Lotz won in 1:51.17.
The 400 freestyle relay of Lily Kerbel, Strube, Nisiewicz and Lotz won in 4:02.99.
Lotz won the 200 freestyle in 2:00.19 and the 100 backstroke in 1:02.36. She holds the school record in both events.
Port’s depth showed with different winners in other events.
Walber-Yoshioka won the 200 indivdiual medley in 2:34.15. Kerbel won the 50 freestyle in 28.74. Nisiewicz won the 100 butterfly in 1:13. Strube won the 100 freestyle in 1:02.9. Teagan Zuraw won the 100 breaststroke in 1:20.84. Chloe Barber won diving with 185 points.
For Grafton, which only has 10 swimmers this season, senior Hannah Gompper stood out, winning the 500 freestyle in 5:43.54 and taking second in the 100 backstroke in 1:09.52. She was a state qualifier in the 500 freestyle last year.
Port got 10 seconds: Cate Gaskell, 200 freestyle, 2:30.01; Nisiewicz, 200 individual medley, 2:37.5; Sophia Panek, 50 freestyle, 29.03, and 100 freestyle, 1:03.59; Ashaya Hughes, diving, 131.45 points; Zuraw, 500 freestyle, 6:21.01; Walber-Yoshioka, 100 breaststroke, 1:23.73; Jerome, 100 butterfly, 1:18.96; the 200 freestyle relay of Kerbel, Schicker, Zuraw and Panek, 1:55.43; and the 400 freestyle relay of Gaskell, Panek, Amanda Crass and Walber-Yoshioka, 4:27.39.
Port and Grafton compete in a Shorewood invite on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 11 and 12. Port hosts Cedarburg and Grafton swims at Nicolet on Tuesday, Oct. 14.
