Peregrine chicks named after state favorites
The names of the eight peregrine falcon chicks hatched at We Energies’ nesting boxes throughout southeastern Wisconsin have been announced.
The utility held a contest to determine the names, which reflect favorite things about Wisconsin.
Almost 12,000 votes were cast, and the winners are:
* Cream Puff, in honor of a State Fair tradition.
* Bubbler, in honor of Wisconsin’s fresh water.
* Kringle, in honor of Wisconsin’s favorite pastry.
* Scoop, in honor of delicious Wisconsin custard.
* Brandy, in honor of the key ingredient in the official state cocktail.
* Tundra, in honor of the state’s longest season.
* Blaze, in honor of blaze orange and pink worn by Wisconsin hunters.
* Hoppy, in honor of the state’s many breweries.
Port Washington’s resident peregrine falcons, Brinn and Beasley, produced four eggs this year but they were not viable.
We Energies has a webcam at its various nesting boxes. To watch, visit www.wecenergygroup.com/environment/falcons.
