Pastel artist is featured at Cultural Center

Pastel artist Mark Price is the November artist in residence at the Cedarburg Cultural Center.

Price is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America and the Master Circle in the International Association of Pastel Societies.

Price, who lives in Cedarburg, started his career working in watercolors, but after moving to Florida he realized the potential of pastels. His watercolors quickly became an underpainting for pastels.

He will demonstrate his art at the center from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, Nov. 2, 9, 17, 23, 24 and 30.

He will also teach the class “Soft Pastels” from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6.

During the class, he will help students explore some of the creative possibilities with soft pastels to convey landscapes and abstracts. Those attending are asked to bring a landscape photo to work from. All other supplies are provided, although students may bring their favorite pastels. Aprons and nitrile or latex gloves are optional.

Students of all skill levels may sign up for the class, which costs $72 for center members and $86 for nonmembers.

The Center at W62 N546 Washington Ave. is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and noon to 4 pm on Sundays.
