Parade returns to Memorial Day lineup in Port

Port Washington’s annual Memorial Day parade will return this year.

The parade, which was canceled last year due to road construction, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 25.

It will head east on Grand Avenue from Wisconsin Street and north on Franklin Street to Jackson Street before making its way to Veterans Memorial Park.

There will be a program at the park emceed by Legion Second Vice Commander Kaia Glenn.

The featured speaker will be former state Legion Commander and Van Ells-Schanen member Jim Johnson, a former Ozaukee County sheriff.

The Legion will provide free hot dogs, ice cream and soda at the Legion Hall across from the park after the ceremony.

Music will be provided, and there will be activities for children.

“We’re trying to make it a little bigger and better,” Legion member John Jacque said. “It’s going to be a family, community event.”

Preceding the event will be a special ceremony at the Ozaukee County War Memorial on Friday, May 22.

The Ozaukee County Council American Legion will host the ceremony on Friday, May 22, at the Ozaukee County Justice Center, 1201 S. Spring St., Port Washington.
