Ozaukee girls cling to victory
The Ozaukee High School girls’ basketball team built a double-digit lead against Kohler on Dec. 17 and hung on.
The Warriors won, 44-41, for their third straight victory.
Guard Becca Schauer, who eclipsed 1,000 career points last season, scored 20 points and had eight rebounds, five assists and four steals.
Gabby Glas scored 10 points and her sister Greta had eight. Cami Miller had seven rebounds.
“It was a very physical game. They are very athletic,” coach Tim Wolff said.
“I thought at times we played really well, but we didn’t shoot the best,” Wolff said.
“We missed some very makeable shots around the hoop, and didn’t hit a lot from outside. But we executed good enough to build a 13 point lead.”
Ozaukee led at halftime, 20-15. The Blue Bombers’ pressure at the end of the game tightened the final score.
Mallory Keller led Kohler with 16 points.
The Warriors were 5-3 overall and 3-3 in the Big East Conference. They were scheduled to host rival Cedar Grove-Belgium on Friday and then host Random Lake on Friday, Jan. 3.
