Ozaukee girl runners are mudders

Every Ozaukee High School girl runner earned a medal at the Chilton Tiger Invite last Friday and they dominated the team competition.

The Warriors won the nine-team meet with 35 points. Valders was second with 87.

Kelley Large won by finishing the 5,000-meter course in 22 minutes, 28 seconds.

Ashlee Mueller was fourth in 23:41. Ally Clark was ninth in 24:22. Jenna Schueller was 10th in 24:22 and Sarah Nehls was right behind in 11th in 24:23.

Even the runners who didn’t make the top five ran well. Grace Tinder was 12th in 24:24 and Sophie Uhlenberg was 14th in 24:25.

While the times were slower due to wet, muddy conditions and 20 mph winds, “our girls did a great job of using our pack to hunt down the competition,” coach Andrew Pfeuffer said.

The boys took third place with 94 points. Valders won with 19, and Chilton had 88.

Hayden Rice took 13th in 19:22. Matt Baldwin was 17th in 19:48. Sam Schubert was 19th in 20:15. Calvin McKee was 20th in 20:15. Tyler Mueller was 25th in 21:06.

“Our boys took a step forward in their racing, and I’m looking forward to what they will hit on a dry and not so windy day,” Pfeuffer said.

The Warriors run Tuesday at Sheboygan Lutheran.

Stacey stands out for Port Washington

Port Washington junior Bethany Stacey took third at the Stevens Point Area High School Panther Invitational last Saturday, leading the Pirates to sixth place out of 16 teams.Stacey ran a 20:05.

“That’s a good time,” coach Joe Adamak said.

The winner, sophomore Roisin Willis of Stevens Point, holds the national freshman record in the 800. She ran an 18:55.

Freshman Braeya Thomas was 22nd in 21:40 and junior Mira Stimac was right behind her in 23rd in 21:41.

Freshman Abby Lotz was 53rd in 22:39 and freshman Emma Kaza-James was 54th in 22:39.

The hosts won the meet with 67 points. Verona was second with 74. Port scored 153.

Port’s boys scored 154 points and were sixth of 17 teams. The hosts won with 36. Marshfield was second with 56.

Ben Pasten was 20th in 17:47. Mason Raasch was 26th in 17:54, nearly three minutes faster than last year. Gabe Pasten was 49th in 18:56. Austin Rinke was 50th in 18:57 and Nate Meeks was 63rd in 19:18.

“Both Mason and Austin had breakthrough races and have really helped to solidify our team strength,” coach Mark Pasten said.

Port runs at Racine St. Catherine on Saturday.

Baker continues to shine for Grafton

Nathan Baker took third place at the Matt Hadler Invite in Menomonee Falls last Saturday.

The Black Hawks scored 320 points and took 13th of 15 teams. Greendale won with 84.

Cael Abad was 63rd in 18:20. Christopher Kalies was 69th in 18:44. Lance Greicar was 86th in 19:20. Nathan Woolf was 99th in 20:18.

The Hawks’ girls didn’t run in the race.

The Hawks run at Waukesha South on Saturday.

CG-Belguim hangs with bigger schools

Cedar Grove-Belgium’s girls were 11th and boys were 13th at the Shawano Hawk Invitational last Saturday.

But the Rocket girls were second and boys were third among Division 3 schools.

In the larger competition, the lady Rockets scored 327 points. Kaukauna won with 48.

Freshman Faith Konzak was 36th (fifth in Division 3) in 22:03. Lyndsay Sass was 45th (eighth) in 22:20. Anna Claerbaut was 59th (10th) in 22:49. Cheyenne Simonet was 82nd (15th) in 23:31. Greta Beernink was 105th (22nd) in 24:40.

The boys scored 335 points and were third in Division 3. Green Bay Preble won with 30.

Logan Ketterhagen was 44th (seventh) in 18:21. Ben Fleuchaus was 45th (eighth) in 18:22. Nathanael Bruhn was 61st (ninth) in 18:42. Alex Nett was 85th (14th) in 19:10. Mason Hoopman was 100th (16th) in 19:24.

The Rockets run at Racine St. Catherine’s on Saturday.
