The Cedar Grove-Belgium and Ozaukee high schools’ track and field teams got their first taste of outdoor competition last week in cold conditions.

The Warriors got started on April 7 at the St. Mary Catholic Quint, and both teams competed in Cedar Grove last Thursday.

The Warrior boys scored 82 points and took second in the Quint.

Jack Lentz won the shot put with a throw of 46 feet 5 inches, and the discus with 140-10. Peyton Mueller won the triple jump with 41-5 and the high jump by clearing 5-8.

Brice Schueller won the 1,600-meter run in 4 minutes, 46.55 seconds and the 800 in 2:08.83.

The 3,200 relay of Nick Schubert, Ayden Hartmann, Evan Caswell and Dylan Budzisz won in 9:50.04.

Otto Utecht was second in discus with 134-11, in pole vault at 9-6 and was third in high jump with 5-6.

Utecht is the first Warrior pole-vaulter since 1986, coach Andrew Pfeuffer said.

Schubert was second in the 1,600 in 4:55.57.

Hugh Steffen was fourth in the 400 in 1:04.45 and Luke Hamm was fifth in the shot put with 35-10.5.

“The boys did a great job in their first outdoor meet and got some good benchmarks to work off of the rest of the season,” Pfeuffer said.

Glaeser sets the pace for the girls

The Warrior girls scored 38 points and finished third. Madison Glaeser led the way by winning the 1,600 in 5:53.21 and taking third in the 800 in 2:43.73.

“Madison had a great meet. She broke the six-minute barrier in the 1,600 for the first time in her career and also set a new personal record in the 800 run by seven seconds,” Pfeuffer said. “She is starting to find her stride and is progressing well her sophomore year.”

Paige Kurlinski won the shot put with 38-2 and was fourth in the discus with 92-5.

Kaylee Steadman was second in the discus with 99-1 and third in the shot put with 31-7.

Eva VanMinsel was second in the 1,600 in 6:26.77. Ieva Juodeikis was third in the high jump with 4-6, and Ayva Johnson was fourth in the 100 in 14.26.

CG-Belgium girls secure five firsts

The Rockets started their outdoor season at home last Thursday, and the girls took five firsts. Team scores weren’t kept in the six-team meet.

Brynlee Schmidt won the 1,600 in 5:50.81 and the 800 in 2:40.83.

Sophie Beightol won the 100 in 13.06 seconds. Mia Grisolono won the 300 hurdles in 55.68.

The 1,600 relay of Grisolono, Layla Arrowood, Evelyn Ramos-Garcia and Beightol won in 4:40.79.

CG-B boys’ distance runners do the job

The Rocket boys took three firsts. Will Huenink won the 1,600 in 4:40.4, and his brother Wes was second in 4:40.59.

Jamison Velzke won the 800 in 1:59.29.

The 1,600 relay of Wes Huenink, Dominic Mazzotti, Caleb Heinen and Velzke won in 3:39.91.

Abram Brill was second in the pole vault with 9-0. Drew Neese was third with 8-9.

Heinen was second in the 100 in 11.59. Dylan Herrera was third in the 200 in 24.38 and Jack Krause was third in the 3,200 in 11:07.

“We were happy to see solid efforts by our athletes and we enjoyed watching athletes try new events as well,” co-coach Jamie Brill said.

Lentz coming on strong for Ozaukee

Lentz won the discus with 139-10 and was second in the shot put with 43-5.5.

“Jack Lentz has been off to a great start of his sophomore year with top-three finishes in every meet so far this year in shot put and placing first in discus in his first two outdoor meets,” Pfeuffer said. “He has really put in the work on his throws for many years and you are starting to see that pay off with some far throws and high finishes.”

Mueller won the long jump with 18-10.5. Utecht won the pole vault with 9-3 and Schubert won the 3,200 in 10:27.

“Nick Schubert ran a strong 3,200 where he took the lead from the gun and never looked back. He is starting to get the hang of the 3,200, and I think he can drop some more time as he progresses through the season,” Pfeuffer said.

Mueller was second in the high jump at 5-10 and fourth in the triple jump with 40-3.5. Schueller was third in the 1,600 in 4:42.28 and in the 800 in 2:06.82.

The 3,200 relay of Hartmann, Budzisz, Caswell and Schubert was third in 9:51.

Braydon Lowrance-Eischen was fourth in the shot put in 41-4.5.

Steadman is steady for Warrior girls

Steadman won the discus with 102-9 and was third in the shot put with 30-2.5.

Glaeser won the 3,200 in 12:58 and was second in the 1,600 in 5:54.

Kurlinski won the shot put with 37-8.5 and was second in the discus with 91-8.

Lilia Steinert was second in the high jump with 4-8.

Juodeikis was third in the long jump with 13-10 and sixth in the high jump with 4-2.

VanMinsel was fourth in the 1,600 in 6:30 and in the 3,200 in 14:32.

Johnson was fifth in the long jump with 13-4.5, sixth in the 100 in 14.14 and sixth in the 200 in 30.42.

“The girls team battled the cold and short rest at the Cedar Grove Hex but had some solid performances and high finishes,” Pfeuffer said.

Ozaukee was to compete Tuesday, April 15, in a multi-team meet in Oostburg and again in Oostburg at an invite on Tuesday, April 22.

The Rockets were to compete in Oostburg on Tuesday, April 15; in Mischicot on Thursday, April 17; and in the Oostburg invite on Tuesday, April 22.
