Ozaukee boys exit holiday break with flat game at rival

When the Ozaukee High School boys’ basketball team traveled to Random Lake last Saturday to reconvene their high school basketball schedule following the holiday break, the Warriors were ill-prepared to take on the Rams.
The host team earned a 56-41 Big East Conference South Division victory.
“Random Lake imposed their will on us,” Ozaukee coach Bob Domach said.
The Warriors battled hard in the first half, and trailed by just four points at the half, 22-18.
The Rams came out strong in the second half and outscored Ozaukee by 11 after the break.
Domach said his team was unable to stop Random Lake, despite knowing their plan.
“We knew what they were going to try to do, and we let them execute their game plan,” Domach stated.
“We have to do a better job in every facet of our game. We need to give better effort on defense, and we have to execute better on offense.”
The Rams had three players in double digits on their way to the win. Sam Rusch had 20 points and 10 rebounds. Cole Borchardt scored 12 points and had five steals. Jake Spaeth scored 11 points.
The Warriors got 18 points, eight rebounds and four assists from Brent Hoffmann.
Noah Miller scored 11 points and had six rebounds.
Simon Bares scored eight points.
The Warriors take their 3-4 Big East South record into Friday’s game at Sheboygan Christian (1-5 in the Big East). On Tuesday, Jan. 14, the Warriors travel to Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah (1-5).
