Nicolet tops Port on the mat
The Port Washington High School wrestling team ran into a much-improved Nicolet squad on the road last Thursday.
The Pirates lost, 42-27.
“This is probably the best team they’ve had in my 16 years,” coach Angelo LaRosa said.
Port’s Jacob Peacy pinned Logan Held in 28 seconds at 220 pounds, and Ever Armendariz pinned Evan Held in 2:21 at 285 pounds.
“That was nice. We were expecting that from those guys,” LaRosa said.
At 145, Brady Krueger beat Luke Lewandowski, 7-0. At 120, Brodie Brecke beat Pace Morel, 12-5. At 126, Kaiden Schumacher beat Dylan Lewandowski, 10-3.
“We wrestled pretty well overall. We lost two one-point matches that could easily have gone the other way. And we won three matches by seven points — get that eight-point margin, you get that extra team point. Every point in a dual meet matters,” LaRosa said.
Port was to wrestle against Ozaukee and Cedarburg at home on Wednesday, and compete at the Fond du Lac Invite on Saturday.
“Last week was the best week of practice by far. We’re going to just keep working,” LaRosa said.
