Miller is still the Soddies’ bat man

Ozaukee alumnus still leads Texas League in hits

A couple of hitless games last week were enough for Ozaukee High School alumnus Owen Miller.
The shortstop for the Amarillo Sod Poodles, the San Diego Padres double-A affiliate, collected six hits, scored five runs and walked twice in a three-game stretch from Friday through Sunday.
Miller leads the Texas League in hits with 103 and is fifth in batting average at .302.
The Soddies won seven of their last 10 to tie the Midland RockHounds at 13-11 for first place in the South Division in the second half of the season.
Miller, 22, grew up playing Little League in Fredonia and was coached by his father. In high school, he played one year for Ozaukee and three years with the Hitters Baseball club team in Racine.
He was drafted by the Padres in the third round, the 84th pick overall, last year. He played for the short season single-A affiliate Tri-City Dust Devils and made the Northwest League all-star team.  He was then promoted to the single-A Fort Wayne TinCaps and then the Double-A San Antonio Missions, a team that became the Sod Poodles, for the playoffs.
