Miller gets traded to Cleveland
Owen Miller’s debut in Major League Baseball won’t be with the team that drafted him, the San Diego Padres.
The Padres traded Miller to the Cleveland Indians in a nine-player deal on Monday.
Miller, a shortstop who was learning other infield positions, was on the Padres’ 60-man roster.
“It was definitely sad saying bye to all my teammates and coaches that I’ve built relationships with the past two years. I know it’s a business and these things happen. I thanked the Padres for drafting me and giving me the opportunities to succeed,” Miller said in a text.
“With that being said, I’m excited for this new opportunity with Cleveland. I think I have a really good chance to make an impact at the big league level with the Indians. I’m happy to be back in the Midwest and can’t wait to get things going.”
Miller graduated from Ozaukee High School in 2015, starred at shortstop at Illinois State and was drafted by the Padres in the third round with the 84th pick overall in 2018.
