Miller continues to lead in hits

Owen Miller, a 2015 Ozaukee High School graduate and member of the San Diego Padres Double-A affiliate Amarillo Sod Poodles, has 129 hits to lead the Texas League this season.

In a 2-0 win over the Frisco RoughRiders on Sunday, Miller advanced a runner to third who later scored and walked to put runners on first and second base, which led to another run.

He also had a base hit.

Miller is hitting .285, seventh in the league.

The Sod Poodles are 32-24 and in first place in the Texas South Division.

Miller, 22, grew up playing Little League in Fredonia and was coached by his father. In high school, he played one year for Ozaukee High and three years with the Hitters Baseball Club team in Racine.

He was drafted by the Padres in the third round, the 84th pick overall, last year.

He played for the short season single-A affiliate Tri-City Dust Devils and made the Northwest League all-star team. 

He was promoted to the single-A Fort Wayne TinCaps and then to the Double-A San Antonio Missions, a team that became the Sod Poodles, for the playoffs.

This season, he stayed with the Soddies.
