Maritime archaeology program set for Aug. 27

A free program on maritime archaeology will be held at the Light Station in Port Washington from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27.

The program will be presented by Jordan Ciesielczyk-Gibson, an educator and maritime archaeologist with the Wisconsin Historical Society’s Maritime Preservation and Archaeology Program.

Ciesielczyk-Gibson will discuss dive gear and show what a diver needs to do their job.

He also will have a large map that those attending can use to take a Great Lakes voyage and learn about geography of the lakes and the types of jobs these ships performed.

Ciesielczyk-Gibson will have puzzles that show historic Great Lakes-type vessels and pictures of actual shipwrecks.

The Light Station, 311 Johnson St., will be open for tours.
