A 36-year-old man was sentenced last week to four years in prison for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in Fredonia in 2021.

Ozaukee County Circuit Judge Steve Cain also sentenced Town of Fredonia resident Daniel R. DeLong to six years of extended supervision following his incarceration.

DeLong pleaded no contest to first-degree sexual assault of a child younger than 13 in February, and at the time Assistant District Attorney Kerra Stumbris recommended he be sentenced to two years in prison and eight years of extended supervision.

DeLong was charged after his victim reported to the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office on July 25, 2022, that he sexually assaulted her multiple times between June 1 and Aug. 31, 2021, in the Village of Fredonia.

The girl, who was interviewed at the Lakeshore Regional Child Advocacy Center in Saukville, said it was common for DeLong to hug her and kiss her on the lips, which she described as weird and inappropriate, according to the criminal complaint.

She said that when DeLong did things that made her uncomfortable, she did not know how to tell him to stop but tried to distract him so he wouldn’t do inappropriate things.

The assaults occurred when DeLong was drunk, and once when he fondled her, the girl said she pushed his hand away and asked him to get away from her. After he left, she said, she cried.

During the May 2 sentencing hearing, Cain ordered DeLong, who will be registered as a sex offender for the rest of his life, not to have contact with anyone younger than 18, except supervised contact with his own child, and maintain absolute sobriety while on extended supervision.

DeLong must receive permission from the Wisconsin Department of Corrections to use computers and the agency must monitor his internet use.

He cannot set up social media accounts or accounts on dating sites without DOC approval, and he is prohibited from pursuing and establishing dating, romantic or sexual relationships without DOC approval.
