A 36-year-old Town of Fredonia man pleaded no contest last week in Ozaukee County Circuit Court to sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in 2021.
Assistant District Attorney Kerra Stumbris recommended during a Feb. 22 hearing that Daniel R. DeLong be sentenced to two years in prison followed by eight years of extended supervision.
Stumbris also recommended that he be ordered to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life and not have contact with his victim or anyone younger than 18 except supervised contact with his child.
DeLong is scheduled to be sentenced by Ozaukee County Circuit Judge Steve Cain on May 2.
Cain ordered DeLong, who had been free in lieu of $15,000 bail, remanded into custody after he entered his plea.
DeLong was charged with first-degree sexual assault of a child younger than 13 after his victim reported to the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office on July 25, 2022, that he sexually assaulted her multiple times between June 1 and Aug. 31, 2021, in the Village of Fredonia.
The girl, who was interviewed at the Lakeshore Regional Child Advocacy Center in Saukville, said it was common for DeLong to hug her and kiss her on the lips, which she described as weird and inappropriate, according to the criminal complaint.
She said that when DeLong did things that made her uncomfortable, she did not know how to tell him to stop but tried to distract him so he wouldn’t do inappropriate things.
The assaults occurred when DeLong was drunk, and during one of them when he fondled her, the girl said she pushed his hand away and asked him to get away from her. After he left, she said, she cried.
First-degree sexual assault of a child is punishable by a maximum 40 years in prison and 20 years of extended supervision.
