A 19-year-old Fredonia man has been charged in Ozaukee County Circuit Court with repeatedly sexually assaulting a girl roughly his age over the course of six years beginning in 2012.

Austin G. Weiland was charged last week with repeated sexual assault of a child after the girl told Child Protective Services earlier this year that Weiland raped her repeatedly when she was between the ages of 9 and 15, from Dec. 2012 to Dec. 31, 2018, according to a criminal complaint.

She said she didn’t know how many times Weiland raped her, but it could have been as many as 45, the complaint states.

The first assault, the girl said, happened in Fredonia when she was 9. She said that when she told Weiland to stop, he told her to be quiet. Eventually, she said, she just closed her eyes because she didn’t know what else to do, according to the criminal complaint.

After that assault and the others that followed, Weiland told the girl if she told anyone about it he would say she initiated it, she said.

The girl said she repeatedly told Weiland to stop as the assaults continued and in one instance tried to push him off of her but she wasn’t strong enough. She said that made him more aggressive, and as she cried he told her to be quiet, the complaint states.

When authorities confronted Weiland with the allegations on June 29, 2022, he told authorities that everything the girl told them was undoubtedly true and he believed the girl was 11 or 12 when the sexual activity began and roughly 17 when it stopped, the complaint states.

Weiland estimated he had intercourse or sexual contact with the girl at least 20 times over a five-year period but admitted it could have been more. He said he threated to blame the activity on her if she told anyone, according to the complaint.

When asked if it was possible that the girl didn’t want to have sex with him but didn’t know how to make him stop, Weiland said that could have been the case, the complaint states.

Weiland also admitted to having sex with another girl over a number of years, according to the complaint.

Weiland is scheduled to make his initial court appearance before Ozaukee County Circuit Court Judge Paul Malloy on Sept. 14.

Repeated sexual assault of a child is punishable by a maximum 25 years in prison and 15 years of extended supervision.
